Tokyo SkyTree(R), known as a new landmark in Japan, is a 634-meter tall tower for terrestrial digital broadcasting that opened on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. At the time, it was recognized as the tallest tower in the world by Guinness World Records. It is about twice as tall as the Tokyo Tower, and can be seen not only from inside Tokyo, but also from as far away as Fukushima Prefecture when the weather conditions are perfect. There is an observatory where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Tokyo, and Tokyo Solamachi, one of the largest shopping malls in Tokyo, is located directly below the Skytree.
※There is a link to the ticket site at the bottom of the page.
It was named after the image of a “”big tree heading for the sky. The hope is that people will gather around the tree and bring their hearts together.”
The height of Tokyo SkyTree is 634 meters. The height of the Tokyo Sky Tree is 634 meters, and the number “”634 can be pronounced Musashi”” was chosen to make it easy to remember. “”Musashi”” is one of the old country names that refers to a large area that includes Tokyo, Saitama, and part of Kanagawa, and is a familiar word to Japanese people. On November 17, 2011, it was certified as the world’s tallest tower by Guinness World Records, and as of 2021, it is still the world’s tallest radio (TV) tower. (*The world’s tallest building is Burj Khalifa in Dubai)”
Tokyo Sky ree is illuminated every night in a variety of colors. There are three basic types of lighting that represent the history and culture of Edo, but there are also special lights for different seasons and events. The lighting hours vary seasonally, starting around 4:30 p.m. in winter when the sun sets early, and after 7:00 p.m. in summer when the sun sets late. The lights are turned off at 24:00 every day.”
Tokyo SkyTree has two observatories of different heights. Each of them requires an admission ticket to enter.
The entrance and ticket office are located on the 4th floor in the outdoor plaza (Sky Arena). If you do not have a ticket, you can purchase one.
There is a combo ticket for both “”Tembo Deck and “”Tembo Galleria””, but you can also go up to Tembo Deck first and then buy a ticket to Tembo Galleria later for the same price as a Combp one.”
After purchasing your ticket, you will take the elevator to the observatory. You can’t choose which elevator you want to take, but there are four different interiors themed around Japanese spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The boarding time is only 50 seconds! You will arrive at the “”Tembo Deck”” in no time.
The observation deck has a 360-degree panoramic view from the ground to the sky, with large windows over five meters high.
There is also a glass floor on Floor 340, where you can stand and look down to experience the height of 340 meters.
At the SKYTREE CAFE, you can enjoy meals and sweets while looking at the spectacular view.”
A special ticket is required to go up to the observation deck “”Tembo Galleria”” further up in the sky. Take the elevator to 450 meters above the ground.
Once you get off the elevator, you will see a glass corridor that stretches for about 110 meters, with the glass windows slightly bulging.
As you walk along the corridor, looking from the ground to the sky, you will feel as if you are taking a walk in the air.
The view from “”Tembo Deck”” is beautiful enough, but the Tokyo cityscape 450 meters below is even more breathtaking and spectacular.”
Tokyo Solamachi, which opened together with the Tokyo SkyTree, is a mall with more than 300 stores that offer gourmet food, souvenirs, fashion, and various goods. You can enjoy gourmet food from all over Japan, as well as various goods stores full of made in Japan products, perfect for souvenir shopping. On the 4th floor, there is the “”Japan Souvenir,”” which is designed in a Japanese style, with stores selling Japanese taste goods such as Amezaiku (candy crafts) and Tenugui (hand towels), as well as stores selling representative Japanese characters. ”
Many unique and fun original products are sold here, including small “”food sample”” items that can be great souvenirs, and authentic food sample kits called “”Sampurun””. You can also try making your own food samples or watch a demonstration of food sample production.”
This aquarium is located on the 5th and 6th floors of Tokyo Skytree Town Solamachi. Although it is a compact aquarium, there are many things to see, such as the “”Indoor Open Pool Tank”” where you can see penguins and fur seals very closely, the “”Tokyo Large Tank”” themed on the seas of the Tokyo Islands, the “”Edorium”” where various goldfish are displayed, and the “”Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel”” with about 5,000 mirrors on the walls and ceiling. If you are lucky, you may even encounter fur seals eating or walking around the aquarium.
*The aquarium used to offer a variety of experiential programs, but these programs are currently being changed or canceled to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection.”
This is a new planetarium that combines visual images, music, and aromas, and there are always three different types of starry sky images being shown. The theme of the starry sky images changes regularly, so there are many repeat visitors. You can enjoy the excitement of the starry sky while being filled with the scent of the original aroma that matches the theme of the work.”
This is a restaurant where you can enjoy over 200 kinds of beer from all over the world and food from many different countries. Sumida Park is a popular spot for taking pictures of the Skytree and the Sumida River from the Taito Ward side, and events are often held in the park, including the Cherry Blossom Festival in March.
You can take pictures of the Skytree from the terrace along both sides of the Sumida River. Depending on your shooting position, you can enjoy a variety of compositions.
You can take a picture of the distinctive monument of Asahi Beer’s headquarters and the Skytree together. Azumabashi is a one-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the subway.
This is a famous photo spot where you can take pictures of the Skytree reflected in a water mirror. A super wide-angle lens is a must to take pictures of the two towers.
This is a popular spot where you can take pictures of the Skytree and the five-storied pagoda, both old and new. The Skytree is said to be modeled after the earthquake-resistant five-story pagoda of Horyuji Temple. At night, both the Skytree and the five-story pagoda are lit up, and you can take fantastic photos that are different from those taken during the day.”
The closest stations are “”Tokyo Skytree Station”” and “”Oshiage Station (Skytree Mae)””.
